Bosnia and Herzegovina’s future depends on an internal political agreement among its three constituent peoples, stated Darijana Filipović, a member of the Parliamentary Assembly and Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, during a working lunch in Sarajevo with ambassadors from the Friends of the Western Balkans group.
The meeting focused on Bosnia’s European path, the continuation of reform processes, and the role of EU member states actively supporting the integration of Western Balkan countries. Participants emphasized that the European path requires stronger gradual integration into EU policies and structures, which can bring concrete benefits to institutions, the economy, and all citizens.
Filipović stressed that BiH must continue working on adopting remaining legislative and reform solutions to accelerate progress toward the EU. “The European path of BiH cannot remain only a declarative commitment. It requires agreement, responsibility, and readiness to turn undertaken obligations into concrete legal and reform solutions,” she said.
She added that Croatian representatives in BiH institutions clearly advocate for the country’s European future because it means more stable institutions, rule of law, economic development, and a more secure framework for all citizens. “The future of BiH must be built through an internal political agreement of equal constituent peoples, respecting all differences, just as the European Union does,” Filipović concluded.
The meeting concluded that European integration has no alternative for BiH, and continued open dialogue with EU member states and partners in the Friends of the Western Balkans group remains important for aligning positions and further progress toward the EU.
