Mekovac Cemetery in Široki Brijeg will implement a new traffic regime and strict parking rules for All Saints’ Day on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when a holy mass will be held at 11 AM. The changes, announced by the Mekovac Cemetery Committee, in cooperation with relevant services and the police, aim to prevent traffic congestion and ensure safe and smooth access for the expected large number of visitors.
Key among the new regulations is a permanent one-way traffic flow on the road leading from the Academy of Fine Arts (Akademija likovnih umjetnosti) towards Mekovac Cemetery. Vehicles will no longer be permitted to drive in the opposite direction, from Mekovac towards the Academy. The recently widened and paved road down Grabovina, connecting Gimnazija fra Dominika Mandića to the bypass, will remain two-way. Regarding parking, visitors are explicitly warned against parking on the western access road to the cemetery, a measure enforced by wardens and police officers from the Široki Brijeg Police Department to avoid previous years’ bottlenecks. Those unable to find space directly at the cemetery are directed to use parking areas near Gimnazija fra Dominika Mandića and in the Bakamuša area.
These comprehensive measures were introduced following recurring issues with improper parking and significant traffic jams in previous years, which hindered vehicle passage and created unnecessary delays. To further alleviate traffic and improve pedestrian access, the committee also announced that a new staircase connecting the Gimnazija area with Mekovac Cemetery is in its final construction phase. This addition is expected to encourage more visitors to walk, thereby reducing the number of vehicles directly approaching the cemetery.
The Mekovac Cemetery Committee appeals to all visitors, parishioners, and citizens for understanding, responsibility, and patience. They urge drivers to strictly adhere to the new traffic signs and instructions from wardens and police officers, emphasizing the importance of not leaving vehicles on roadways or in places that could obstruct traffic or endanger safety. The collective goal is to ensure a dignified, peaceful, and trouble-free observance of All Saints’ Day, allowing everyone to remember their deceased loved ones without unnecessary traffic complications. The committee extended thanks to all for their understanding, cooperation, and assistance.
